P3 Paints by Steamforged Games Coming Soon to Kickstarter

UK-based tabletop gaming creator and publisher, Steamforged Games, has announced the relaunch of the acclaimed P3 paints range. P3 paints have long been popular with hobby miniature painting enthusiasts and will be relaunched by Steamforged Games on Kickstarter this September 10th.

Previously known as ‘Formula P3’, P3 paints were first designed for use with tabletop miniatures in 2006. Originally developed by Privateer Press, P3 paints became a fast favourite among miniature painters for their rich pigmentation, smooth consistency, silky brush feel, and ease of control when painting.

The creamy consistency of P3 paints made them ideal to work with for beginners and advanced painters alike. With a broad spectrum of unique colours ideal for bringing a wide range of tabletop gaming miniatures to life, P3 paints have enjoyed a great reputation as a reliable choice for hobbyists seeking professional results.

The P3 brand was taken on by Steamforged Games as part of its acquisition of several Privateer Press brands in June this year. Steamforged also acquired Warmachine, theaward-winning fantasy wargame, at the same time.

An avid painter himself, Mat Hart, founder and creative director of Steamforged Games, has been deeply involved in developing the new P3 formula. He said:

“P3 paints were originally formulated to stay wet for longer, allowing painters to ‘wet blend’ colours more smoothly on models. In the 18 years since the original formula was launched, paint technology has evolved significantly, as have the expectations of a painting audience that’s blessed with plenty of options.

“In creating the new P3 range, it was essential we preserve the original benefits that gave P3 its stellar reputation, while incorporating modern advancements to bring the paint up-to-date.

“During development of the new P3 formula, we’ve pushed pigment load as far as possible to give rich, vibrant colours that pop, without losing the classic consistency and feel. Unlike many modern paint ranges, we’ve fine-tuned the finish to give a slight satin effect. This ensures vibrant colour saturation as well as providing the ideal surface for washing, layering, glazing and, of course, wet-blending, while also providing better protection than matte finishes.

“Once we’d established the baseline behaviour of the formula, we then focused on each paint individually to ensure every colour performs consistently off the brush, including our brand new metallics. We've worked closely with our manufacturing partner to take the metallic paints to another level for intense coverage. The new for mula delivers serious shine and lets the paints cover easily straight from the pot, but can also be diluted down for maximum control.

“The new P3 range stands on the shoulders of the giants who first conceived it, then goes even higher to deliver a modern, powerful paint with best-in-class behaviour for painters of all experience levels.”

Steamforged Games has chosen crowdfunding for the relaunch in order to engage directly with the passionate community of miniature painters who have been awaiting the return of P3. By backing this project, supporters will play a crucial role in reviving a beloved line of paints and reinstating its place as a staple in the hobby going forward, as well as getting access to exclusive colours. The Kickstarter will also include several colours that have never been released before.

Steamforged Games has a solid track record with crowdfunding campaigns, fulfilling more than 200,000 backer pledges across 19 projects with over £35 million raised. Crowdfunding is a vehicle for not just delivering products to fans, but building the foundation and community to ensure the future success of a brand. P3 paints will later be available at retail.

P3 paints are coming to Kickstarter on September 10th. For more information, those interested can sign-up for the Steamforged Games newsletter, or follow the Kickstarter campaign to be notified when it launches.
