In a future without energy scarcity, an ancient yet advanced Gateway has been discovered in independent space.
Rock Manor Games is thrilled to announce that the solo, co-op, and competitive 1-4 player board game StarDriven Gateway, will be launching on Gamefound on October 1st. We’re commemorating the launch with an animated Saturday Morning cartoon style video to give everyone a taste of the world.
The StarDriven universe was originally conceived on a long drive to the Origins Expo over 5 years ago by Todd Walsh (Set a Watch series) and Mike Gnade (Maximum Apocalypse, Lawyer Up). StarDriven: Gateway is the first of 3 planned games in the universe and features incredibly unique and innovative gameplay that thrusts players into the role of commanding the Crew of a Starship. Unlike most games in the genre, each Crew card is unique and your ship is controlled by assigning them to the individual stations. With the discovery of ancient advanced technology, time is ticking for each asymmetric faction to complete missions to influence the Council of Independent Worlds to give them access to the mysteries of the Gateway.“Stardriven: Gateway has been a dream project and is the culmination of a lifelong passion for science fiction, inspired by classics like Star Trek, Battlestar Galactica, The Expanse, Firefly, and Star Wars. These stories, centered on futuristic adventures and starship exploration, highlight the challenges that can only be overcome through the ingenuity and teamwork of a skilled crew. Over the years, science fiction board games have provided a variety of experiences, from grand empire-building games to skirmish war games and single-ship sandbox adventures. With StarDriven: Gateway, we aim to offer a fresh experience where players manage and build their ship tableau with crew and ship upgrades. If you want to take command off your own starship, we know Stardriven: Gateway will do that in a way you haven't experienced before.” - Todd Walsh (Designer)
Key features of StarDriven: Gateway include:- Command and Manage your Crew: Each crew member has their own unique skills and abilities and it is up to you to assign them to stations where they can earn promotion or spend them to go on away missions.
- Episodic Play: Each replayable episode is a unique scenario and flexible, allowing players to drop in/out as needed. Each competitive episode has unique rules and scoring. Cooperative scenarios offer unique challenges with varying difficulties.
- Asymmetric Factions: Play 4 unique factions: United Worlds, Privateers, Traveler Guild, or Synth Network each with their own unique ship, tech upgrades, crew members, and abilities.
- Manage your Starship: Assign crew to the stations that you need to activate with your dice. Manage your ship's power, shields, weapon charges and keep moving forward to complete missions and gain reputation on nearby worlds.
- Variable Map to explore: Create a randomized map to explore every time that you play.
- Research Anomalies: Scan for anomalies or fly right into them and face their dangers. Crew member skills can be used to learn from the anomaly and gain you powerful one-time use effects.
- Warbound Menace: Attack the Warbound faction to gain resources, points, and other perks in competitive play or play against them in their own cooperative mode and prevent them from spreading terror across the galaxy.
- Complete Missions: Curry favor with the Council of Independent Planets by completing nearby missions. Big scoring opportunities exist for players that control the area and have the most reputation on a Council World.
The Gamefound campaign for StarDriven: Gateway offers backers the opportunity to secure exclusive rewards, including an exclusive expansion pack with additional episodes as well as a deluxe version with upgraded components and a new cooperative scenario against a Nautiloid Dreadnought that arrives through the Gateway.
